What are your favorite Poe stories and poems?

Post by The Lurking Fear »

My favorite Poem is probably The Conqueror Worm and My favorite story which I just read is The Pit and The Pendulum.

I didn't understand The Pit and Pendulum when I read it I found some other website with a summary of the story and it showed me what I missed and what I didn't quite get in the story.

I never quite get all of a Poe story, they are hard to read sometimes. I lose track of whats going on a lot of times.. anyone else have this problem with Poe's stuff? It's great stuff just hard to get without more than one read.
Fear is always lurking..

My only problem with Poe is that he did not write enough stories.

Hard to pick a favorite Poe story, and for his poems, it's a toss-up between "The Conqueror Worm" and "The Raven."

I like all of Poe's work.

I find it to be a strange way to write a story. Not a lot of stories are writting the way Poe wrote.

My mother has these Poe movies that Vincent price comes out in, there are called Midnite Movies, (you can find them on amazon. com if you don't have them)
Well anyways the movies are very beautiful. They keep in the theme of the original story.

My favorite would have to be The Premature Burial, and The Masque of the Red Death and of course Annabel Lee.

Carmine Doll,

There's a HPL adaptation of The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward with Vincent Price called The Haunted Palace. If you haven't seen it you might like it.
"I saw no city spread below, and no friendly lights gleaming from remembered streets, but only the blackness of space illimitable; unimagined space alive with motion and music, and having no semblance of anything on earth."

Carmine... all the Poe-based movies suck, except for the VIncent Price scenes. It's sad but it's true.

Vincent Price is a great choice for anything, full stop. But those films make Poe look like Dan Brown.

I agree, I have always thought the same, I like everything of Poe.
One of my favorites is The Masque of the Red Death and The Narrative of AG Pym.

The Masque of the Red Death, Tell-Tale Heart, Pit and the Pendulum, Cask of Amontillado and Murders in the Rue Morgue are probably my favorites.

I've been reading and rereading Poe for quite a while. If anyone has a question about his work, I can probably help.

i went to a show at the fullerton college performing arts center in which john astin portrayed edgar allan poe, telling the story of his life and reciting a few things. it was pretty informative. instead of thinking of gomez addams, i remembered a more seasoned astin featured as judge harry stone's father on night court

I find Poe to be very hard to read. I usually can't get more than half a page to a page into one of his stories before I can't read it anymore.

That being said, my favorite story that I've read is The Oblong Box. My favorite poem, Helen.
