Mythos Era Music
This is a Bethesda Software release, available on their new game 'Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth'.
The song is called 'Smile At Me Baby' and it was very popular in the 1920's. You can hear it playing in the opening Asylum scene.

Its short and sappy, but it gives me chills everytime I hear it... just like the Carpenters.

in another 80 years, people might be creeping themselves out with scratchy, crackly recordings of kelly clarkson and 50 cent...
A monkey riding a dog is probably the awesomest thing that could ever happen.

Kelly Clarkson is indeed VERY creepy.
On a theme, one of my favourite musicians of the last year has been "the caretaker" who makes darkambient music using old 1920/30's music as his source material. Often it's really abstracted and distorted, but it maintains a very creepy, sometimes sad and melancholic mood throughout with the "haunted ballroom" concept. The best albums are "stairway to the stars" & "we'll go riding on a rainbow"... the latter having a slightly menacing tone to it also.
I think a lot of it is available for free download from the caretaker's website at the moment. Check it out:- www.brainwashed.com/vvm/micro/caretaker/index.htm
