In the Kinvara 5 Saucony added a feature Nike Roshe Run online UK Sale they are calling PRO-LOCK to the upper. PRO-LOCK consists of a triangular piece of material that extends from the sole up the midfoot on either side of the shoe. It’s sandwiched in between the outer mesh and a soft piece of interior mesh that attaches to the tongue. There is a lace hole at the apex of the triangle, and the intent is that PRO-LOCK will cradle the midfoot on each side for a more secure fit (you can see the yellow PRO-LOCK lace holes in the image above). I’m kind of ambivalent about this feature – you do sense the wrap when lacing tightly, but the triangle on the inner side bends and causes the upper to pucker outward away from the arch when you roll inward. I might just need to play with the lacing a Nike Air Max 90 Online Sale bit to dial it in.
The recent research paper “The effect of three different levels of footwear stability on pain outcomes in women runners: a randomised control trial from the British Journal of Sports Medicine has caused a lot of buzz in the minimalist running community. The study used a static foot measurement method to determine degree of over-pronation in individual runners (Foot Posture Index in this case), and then assign neutral, stability and motion control shoes at random within each group to see if shoe type influenced injury susceptibility.
Over-pronation can occur for a number of reasons. It could result from deformed feet, poor muscle strength or control, but also as demonstrated here it could simply be an effect of the cushioning in the shoe. It is said that a large proportion of runners over-pronate, numbers as large as 70% are often stated. However, it is difficult to know whether these estimates refer to overpronation in shoes or in the barefoot condition. Perhaps it is more likely to get injured if you don’t over-pronate barefoot but do it in shoes – the foot getting into a situation it is not used to.
My experience with the Mizuno Hitogami so far has been very positive. I view this as a lightweight training shoe/distance racing shoe. It’s cushioned enough to handle a half-marathon to marathon, but for a 5K I’d want something stiffer and closer to the ground. As such, I’d rank it in the same category as the Saucony Kinvara, adidas Adios Boost, New Balance 1400v2, Brooks PureConnect 3, and maybe the Asics Gel Lyte33 (should have a v3 review in a few weeks). Among these a selling point is that it ma Nike Air Max 2015 UK Sale y have the widest toebox (except maybe compared to the Asics).
