walks, or landscaping,'" Garland Drive resident Andrei Sarna Wojcicki wrote to the city. The plan specifically includes Middlefield as a designated residential arterial; and widening Middlefield would turn the road into an expressway, he argued.
Ananth Prasad, a senior civil engineer for the County of Santa Clara Roads and Airports Department, said many of the light signals at intersections including at Middlefield are antiquated and cause visibility hazards. Lane designs also cause traffic to back up during peak hours.
But what's missing is a bird's eye view of the neighborhood to understand the full impact of the proposed changes, Pam Radin, traffic chair of the Midtown Residents Association, said.
"There are three major developments in the Page Mill area: the public safety building; Google may be moving into the Agilent building; and a large housing development is going into the same area. And there are three major developments across from Fry's. Further south on Middlefield, there are the proposed Mitchell Park library and a potential Foothill Cubberley campus," she said.
Another issue is neighborhood connectivity. Proposals to cut off turning Cheap UGGs across Oregon Expressway at Ross, Indian and Waverley would further reduce access of residents from both north and south parts of town, Radin said.
Ross is part of the city's Bicycle Transportation Plan. The bicycle plan includes a pedestrian/bike only signal at Ross and Oregon to connect Midtown students with Jordan Middle School.
Prasad said consideration of the bike boulevard is beyond the scope of the project.
"At this point, this is sometime in the future. If it were to happen in the future, there would be a need for a signalized intersection and there would have to be an opening in the median," he said.
But Radin said it would be prudent to add the signal now in preparation for the bike boulevard rather than adding a median that would have to be removed later. Adding a median would prevent bike access across Oregon Cheap UGG Boots and would likely eliminate the future bike boulevard option, she said.
Traffic could also be pushed onto adjacent streets if the three intersections are closed by the median, Radin said.
"On Waverley, if they close off with the median, traffic would go onto Bryant and Cowper," she said. The medians would also cause emergency vehicles to have to take a round about route to access neighborhoods, she added.
