Each time Michael Cuddyer really tried to sprint

Post by linhe »

DENVER -- Each time Michael Cuddyer really tried to sprint in the outfield grass to fully assess his strained left hamstring, he felt like it was about to give out. Kaka Brazil Jersey . Not worth a risk. Not this early in the season. The Colorado Rockies outfielder went on the 15-day disabled list Monday, a move retroactive to Friday. To take his place on the roster, the Rockies recalled infielder Charlie Culberson from Triple-A Colorado Springs. "Extremely frustrating," Cuddyer said of his balky hamstring, something hes never experienced before in his career. "This is nagging more than anything else." The reigning NL batting champion estimates he can run at about 70 per cent before the hamstring begins to act up. "Obviously, you cant play like that," he said. "I dont know how long its going to take." Cuddyer is off to another hot start at the plate, too, hitting .317 with three homers and 10 RBIs. With Cuddyer sidelined, the Rockies will platoon players in right, with Charlie Blackmon starting Monday against the San Francisco Giants. Depth in the outfield is certainly something the Rockies have an abundance of this season. "Cuddy is one of the better players on this team. More than even on this team, in this game," shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said. "Its definitely going to make an impact. But were deep enough; were going to be OK. "And when we get him back, its going to be that much more of a complement to our lineup, to have such a good player. You know youre going to go through the season and people are going to have injuries. Hopefully, we get him back sooner rather than later." Cuddyer spent some time on the DL last May with a bulging disk in his neck. He hit .331 to become the sixth Rockies player to lead the league in batting. "Give him a couple of weeks to heal up and hopefully hell be ready to go at that point," manager Walt Weiss said. All-Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez was back in the lineup a day after leaving the game with tendinitis in his left knee. He said the pain flares up from time to time, especially when he takes a bad step out of the batters box like he did Sunday against Philadelphia. "I try to play my best with what I have right now," said Gonzalez, who texted his manager Sunday night to say he would be good to go against the Giants. "Its always going to be that way. Youre always going to have to deal with pain. You have to understand your body and understand what you can do. Im trying to go out there with no limits. "Im not going to think about the knee, try to run as fast as I can and make every play I can make. Its something we have to manage." Closely, too. "Just check in with him on a daily basis," Weiss said. "Well certainly keep an eye on him." Colorado may be moving closer to getting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin back from a strained shoulder. The hard-throwing righty is scheduled to make another minor league injury rehabilitation start Friday for the Sky Sox and is to throw about 80 pitches. He was eligible to be reinstated April 5. "I feel good," Chacin said. "Really good." Hulk Brazil Jersey . Jarome Iginla and Zdeno Chara each had two goals, Tuukka Rask made 25 saves and the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-1 Saturday. Its a familiar position for Phillips, a 30-plus-year NFL coaching veteran, who was last a head coach in Dallas and has twice served as an interim head coach in the league. The first time came in 1985 when his father Bum Phillips stepped down with the Saints, the second was in 2003 when Dan Reeves resigned as Atlantas coach with three games left. "Thirty-three years Ive been either a co-ordinator on one side of the ball or a head coach," Phillips said. "I think experience helps. I hope it does in this case. Im pretty familiar with what (to do)." Phillips has had a tough month with the recent death of his father and being thrust into this role with Kubiak ailing. Hes talked to the team about dealing with adversity and thinks the players will respond well Sunday. "A lots been going on in my life and, I told the players, too, weve lost some games, but there are tougher things than losing some ballgames that people have overcome," Phillips said. "And so we can overcome losing ballgames if people can overcome some of the things that have happened." Offensive co-ordinator Rick Dennison will take over the play-calling duties, with input from Phillips, when the Texans travel to Arizona on Sunday. Dennison doesnt believe much will change offensively with Kubiak out. "Ive been with him for a long time and we have the same philosophy on how to win football games," Dennnison said. Dante Brazil Jersey. "I would say just being around him in this position for the last four years we would be very similar. I dont know that were exact, but were very similar." The team said Monday the 52-year-old Kubiak suffered a transient ischemic attack at halftime of Sundays loss to Indianapolis. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery, but there is no timetable for his return to the team. Phillips said he has spoken to Kubiak, but they didnt really talk football. "Hes left it to me and he said: Do what you think," Phillips said. Dennison said Kubiak told him hed like to come by the stadium in the next few days, but he wasnt sure if that would actually happen. "I called him back and (Kubiaks wife) Rhonda answered the phone and I was in a bit of trouble," Dennison said. "So Im going to try to stay away." Phillips mixed up some things at practice Wednesday in an attempt to help the team get back on track. Cornerback Johnathan Joseph said Wednesdays practice was "energetic" and that it ran smoothly without Kubiak. "We are changing a few things in practice that we think will help," Phillips said. "We feel like we need to change something. Its not going the way we want it to go, so we have to change some things." Case Keenum will make his third start Sunday after solid performances in the first two. Phillips said Keenum has earned the right to start and has been impressed with his ability to make big plays. Hes completed 11 passes of 25 yards or more in his two starts combined as the Texans have dropped those games by four total points. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
