Nickolaus Pacione used a copyrighted photo (owned by National Geographic) for his Quakes & Storms anthology. NG has been notified; they are currently deciding a course of action.

Lesson: Always get permission to use what's not yours.

Let me get this straight: Are you saying you notified National Geographic? I notice you used the passive voice in saying NG "has been notified." If you actually went out of your way to report the unauthorized use of a photo, I would think you'd be proud enough to claim credit for it.

"Deciding on a course of action" certainly sounds ominous. Poor Mr. Pacione. I'm sure he can expect a very sternly worded letter of rebuke.

It's not so -- someone trapped me into a photo saying it was a public domain photo but it wasn't when I learned later. I changed the cover photo after learning about it. I am in fact posting the cover that was used from the photo library of the noaa.org, all their pictures are public domain. I have two versions of the anthology's cover. The one posted here will be the one that is sold and will be carried in book stores the other one is on the special storefront, and that is the version available as a hardcover edition. The cover I use here is on this edition.
