HP Lovecraft Film Festival

Post by Sphyre »

It's located in Portland, OR but I was wondering if anyone had ever attended any of these? I know some one at a local Lovecraft-inspired art studio that helped produce it and I heard amazing things. Sadly, I was stuck at work this year so I couldn't make it.

There are actually many posts on here about the film festival. Several forum members attended.

There are also some good links to summaries and re-caps of the event.

I hope to attend one of these days.

Welcome to the forum!

Eh, that's what I get for only breifly browsing. Sorry. I hate it when people do what I just did.

Does that mean there are members in the area or is it really that much a draw that people travel any distance for it?

One can never tell what's what when one is living in the fishbowl. ;)

I forget where they (they people who went) live, but I do not think any of them actually live in the town of the festival.

There is quite a draw to it though. Even noted Lovecraft authority S. T. Joshi attended. (There is actually an online interview on the main site with Mr. Joshi).

I live in Oklahoma, and my Uncle lives in Ohio. We flew out to the festival from here. There are a couple of people lurking about the forum who attended that live in the Seattle area...

It's well worth attending from any distance. Last year, one of my friends attended all the way from Italy!

This year will be my third year. I come down from Seattle so it is not too tough. I have seen folks from Italy, Germany, Canada, and all over the US attend the fest. Part of what makes it so cool it is a real labor of Love. Not all the films are great but they are all made with a lot of passion and real interest in Lovecraft. A lot of them are very good.

This year’s fest should be very cool. With a world premiere from Stuart Gordon of "Dreams in the Witch House" (Gordon will be there too) Also the short that looks to be the show stopper "Call of Cthulhu". Along with one of my all time favorites “Cast a Deadly Spell”.

The whole fest takes place in one theater with three screens and all movies are played multiple times so if you plan it right you can see everything the fest has. Which is so very cool.

No I do not work for the fest I just really have enjoyed attending it the last couple years.

Speaking of S.T. Joshi, is his annotated Lovecraft fiction trilogy (Penguin Classics) Howard's complete fiction works, or do I have to go spend MORE of my hard-earned money?
