I don't use p2p crap. And no, I actually have a free incarnation of the application that came with my mag I read. The free version doesn't come with a library, but is fully fuctional. Meaning that, instead of having out of the box toys, I get to make my own  If any of you want to mess with it, I will post a zip file of it on my domain and link it here. The item requires either a VST or DXI environment-supported soft synth main application, such as reason or reaktor (I use reaktor 5).

Here is another thing I am toying with tonight, a plugin (freeware) for Reaktor (or whatever you use):

One of the best programs I have ever seen for making drum patterns is called Hammerhead. I have not been able to find it online in some time now, but I have an old build of it. The program is freeware.

Cool, man. I doubt I'd use it myself, though, but you could probably get some badass stuff out of something like that.

I am currently working on "sound painting". Not to be confused with Acid software, which is basically drag and drop crap, I am talking about actual sound design via "paintings".

What I mean is a little bit fringe, and has a current strong underground appeal, but is not in the mainstream yet (it will BWAAAHAHAHA).

Basically, sound painting is utilizing algorythmic patterns, found in the encoded data of an image, to create new, previously unheard soundscapes. This is a science, literally, and it is becoming more and more a part of my routine these days.

There are many many programs on the net that offer this assistance to computer musicians. Many of them cost more than Autocad, but some are freeware and extremely powerful.

Peek into this, and you may not sleep or want much else.
LOL.
