yeah, i rented this movie once. i was pretty disappointed.. the stories were only vaguely related to anything i have read in the mythos. the movie is pretty much standard b-horror fare, packaged as something that promises more.
if anyone knows of any really good mythos movies, i would like to see one. i have been to the website for the 'silent film' of call of cthulhu, which might be alright, if gimmickiness doesn't get in the way.

no.. there arent any Mythos Movies that Actually Live up to Lovecrafts Stories.... until i come along as a Director/Lawyer/Guy on the Streets and make The Call of Cthulhu into a Smash Blockbuster, with the new year 2020 "AtmosTheatre", where you can change the Atmosphere of the Room to any Sorta Customizable Setting. its gonna be huge, and just as Downloaded as the R. Kelly Video, you know the one.

I loved 'Necronomicon'. You just have to look at it for what it is.. a cheesy horror movie, and not really an adaptation of anything

That is the most inane thing...
It's called the enlightenment. Happened a few hundred years ago, and with it the seperation of church from state. Any religious based mobilization effectively neutralized in the process.
Get a clue and look it up.
Three relatively benign religons anyway, nfi what youre going on about with "christian terror" That's the bush regime acting on their own iniative, using christianity as a scapegoat.

Yes, but "Christian terror" has happened - the Crusades and the Inquistion spring to mind as examples.

That kind of depends on where you are. Back when I used to live in Tennessee, it was pretty easy to see that the enlightenment had not yet occurred everywhere.

<_<..you might not believe me, but I joined just to post one thing in this thread, however, I do plan to stay. But, moving on to the point.
If memory serves "Necronomicon" is Latin for "Book of the Dead". Taking this literally, there are *many* "real" "Necronomicons" in the world. Some of the more...relevant, ones that come to mind would be the following:
Tibetan Book of the Dead(Or, if you really want to: The Tibetan Necronomicon)
The "Papyrus of Ani", or, better known as the "Egyptian Book of the Dead", or, again, if it makes you happy "Egyptian Necronomicon". This is probably the most...ehh "relevant" book given the subject here. It's a guide to the after-life, including spells to summon beings to protect you in the Here-after.
Abstracting the concept just a wee bit, one could consider the bible(in all it's many incarnations, including the koran, torah, book of mormon, kabbalah, ect) could be seen as a "Book of the Dead". The most relevant one would probably be the Kabbalah. It's quite the interesting Jewish Mysticism book.
So, does a "real" Necronomicon exist? Yes, many of them exist, and are taken very seriously by their respective religions. Does one exist how we, fans of Lovecraft, think it would? Not to my knowledge. However, one never knows. Infact, at the risk of sounding cheesy, Lovecraft said it best: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance amidst the black seas of infinity; and it was not meant that we should stray far."
So, ponder that for a while.

Thank you for pointing out a readily known fact that we've known since time began.
Your input is enlightening but not needed.

you really need to watch out for the welcome wagon here. i'm not sure why it has spinning blades on its wheels.
but anyway,
book of dead names is what i thought it translated to. it's some kind of mongrel grecoromanized subtitle for
al azif, anyway.
