Haha, first off, props to Adrian for the pic of the Dude, one of my all-time fav movies. And contrary to everyone else in this topic unfortunately, Donnie Darko is not one of my fav movies(too many plot holes).

No tattoo's for me, I'm quite scared of needles(which one wouldn't guess by looking at me because I'm a rather large guy). I haven't completely ruled it out, I've considered biting the bullet and maybe have "AEQUITAS" written in a classic sort of text on my upper back. For those of you who don't know what it means, it's Latin for "Justice/Equality". You might have seen it written on one of the brother's hands in The Boondock Saints, though I like it more on a personal level than because of the movie, because I firmly believe in justice and the lack there of in today's society. But that's straying from the topic quite a bit. Back to the discussion...

"Boondock Saints" is great, but what plot holes do you see in DD :) ?

Well, it's been a while since I've seen the movie, but the one that makes me so unnerved, is that fact that the only way to move through time is with a car that can travel faster than the speed of light. And this is even said in the movie. Yet somehow he travelled through time. WTF!?! Unless he bought a DeLorean with a flux-capacitor on the back, they just left a huge gap in continuity.

The car is a metaphor. It is really talking about wormholes. One does not travel faster than the speed of light, but one might be able to take a different path through time.

:)

Great tattoo on the back of the neck Adrian! :)

That's just my point though. The movie explicitly said that there is no other means of travelling through time besides a car that travels faster than the speed of light. So even these "wormholes" would not work(according to the movie). Which I don't even understand the wormholes anyway, but nonetheless, the writers contradicted themselves.

Maybe they took the flux capacitor (how can you have a capacitor in charge of flux? Flux is not a thing, it is an action!) out of the DeLorean, and put it in the back of their car.

Actually Donnie does not travel through time per se. The time travelling is done in the metal craft, which is the plane Donnie's mom and sister are in. After that the Tangent Universe occurs. Everything from the point of the falling engine is not real in the sense that it will be drawn back into the point of impact (jet engine "smooshing" Donnie).
They talk theoretically in DD (the scene with Monnitoff). In "Back To the Future" (which was an action-comedy) time-travel concept was explored in the "Time Paradox" way. In DD the approch is scientific, concerning with String Theory and is in it's very nature lovecraftian.

So that wasn't a plot hole as time travelling is not done by Donnie, but he is being "travelled" under influence.

I'm still sticking with my "no car faster than the speed of light" theory. :P

But after reading it again, I understand it. Though I do not know of the string theory, and I have no idea how Donnie Darko at all shows any signs of Lovecraft influence.
