Actually, I was going at it from the maths direction. Angles are more of a Euclidean thing. The Mythos uses non-Euclidean geometry, and as such, parabola and other such curves.

I just watched the silent film Call Of Cthulhu and must say they did an excellent job portraying that exposition.
