Major New Anthology Announcement: The Cthulhuian Singularity

Post by Hankgator »

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on an upcoming anthology of Lovecraft-inspired stories, to be released this October/November by Darkside Press. We anticipate a premiere at World Fantasy Con.

The Cthulhuian Singularity, co-edited by John Pelan and me, is set for publication as a signed, limited edition this fall (a very limited, lettered deluxe edition will also be published). The goal of this anthology is to explore the science-fiction aspects of the mythos while maintaining the atmosphere of cosmic horror that makes Lovecraftian fiction so much fun. This rather unusual theme allowed us to bring together some of today's finest sci-fi and horror writers for a collection of stories that is already exceeding our relatively high expectations.

Contributors include Michael Reaves and Steve Perry, Ken MacLeod, Michael Shea, F. Paul Wilson, Caitlyn Kiernan, Brian Hodge, Mehitobel Wilson and several others (including a few surprises we can't yet mention). Reprints of Ramsey Campbell's The Tugging and Charles Stross's A Colder War will also be included with the gracious permission of the authors. All contributors have agreed to sign the limited edition, making it especially collectible.

The hosts of this site have been kind enough to allow this message to be posted, and I want to convey my appreciation to them for their hospitality. I will gladly keep everyone updated as the publication date approaches, and we will be taking advance orders around the end of the summer. Anyone with any questions should feel free to email me. This book is shaping up to be a sure crowd-pleaser.

In the meantime, Respect Your Elders!

From where will be able to buy this interesting tome? And any estimate on price? Will it be hardback or paperback? Sounds interesting.

The limited edition will be issued as a collector-quality hardcover (signed by each author). The sales price is expected to be $75.00. The deluxe edition will be leather bound, each containing an original piece of Lovecraftian-themed artwork and with a decorative metal case (and a considerably higher price tag).

We fully expect a trade paperback printing will follow, but we have decided not to negotiate that deal until after publication of this edition. I would guess two years before the paperback version.

Because it is a limited edition, it will be only available through select retail outlets, and of course online. You can keep an eye out for it at www.darksidepress.com. I will, of course, post an update on this board as the release date draws near.

Hope that answers your questions. Feel free to ask any others you may have.

I wish DAW books would reprint the anthology "Miskatonic University." I looked at some online bookstores and the damned thing is selling for between $30 and $70!!!
