"American Solider 2009"

Post by decadence »

[A new poem...]

I look at the paper
that has become these hands of mine.
Who knew but me,
who knew it would all end in bones.
The times were always fast,
the tides always restless.
Evermore a fairy tale,
these, my wings,
a mortal coil wrapped around the flag.
Who knew but you,
who knew my bones would speak in my stead.

These sunrises and sunsets,
each one hundred billion stars,
all vying for a piece of my notice,
each, one and all, demanding fealty.
Rolling along a special path of lucidity,
my voice, a mere pebble tossed into
the sea of more of them;
I am undone.

These bones rest.
The times were always fading,
even as we ignored it.
A bullet can sing a song in a nanosecond.
A ballet can be danced in a memory in an hour.
All it took was one.

"Son?"
That really sucks :/
My brother practically raised me, we're really close. He could do so much more with his life. I wish he wasn't going into the Marines.
