Which Lovecraft story is this?

Post by blue_demon »

Hi,

Trying to find an H P Lovecraft story. Can't remember the name at all...

It's about a guy living/staying in some kind of apartment block or hotel room and he listens to some guy play the violin....I think the guy plays the music to keep demons or somethign away from him.

Any clue?

I just rediscovered Lovecraft and would love to re-read this story. All my books are back home, I live abroad....but the works are online...

Yeah, easy...hahah - but with out the copies here and no index hard to find...I've been scratching my head for weeks...So thank you.

Yes, I agree I always pictured that as a short film, a little like the Twilight zone

Thanks again

I believed used on this punk LP cover...

Rudimentary Peni's Cacophony...not their best LP but some mad Lovecraft rabblings in the lyrics.

There's a decent audio version at Pseudopod. It's #100, I believe.

They have quite a few good stories. It's a rare weekend when I actually delete the podcast before it's over.

Hate to be a stickler, but it's actually a Viol he plays, not a Violin. Everyone confuses the two when talking about this story.

I didn't even realise there was a difference until I read it in Joshi's Lovecraft Encyclopedia :P

There have been many short amateur film adaptations of "The Music of Erich Zann," one of which is available as part of a DVD program from LURKER FILMS. The story itself may be found in the Penguin paperback, THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP & OTHER WEIRD STORIES, my favourite of ye three Penguin editions edited by S. T. Joshi, that Dark Ghod of Lovecraft Studies.
