Reanimator is Possible.

Most of us have probably allready seen this, and this has probably been brought up numerous times, but just in case, here it is.

In 1939, the Soviets began research into the reanimation of dead organisms. Apparantly, according to the film and several other sources, they created a machine that could keep a dogs severed head alive for a few hours after 15 minutes past death, and could revive a 15 minute dead dog and keep it alive and like new for months, if not years.

The things shown in the film may have been staged for the cameras, but the actual experiment published prety much claims and substantiates what is shown in the film. Personally, I find the film to be true to what it says it is.

Would it be ethical today to try it on a human, or to at least continue experiments on dogs?

Just because something looks alive does not mean its sentient.

what applications of this would be useful? keeping organs alive, i see that, but what's the point of waking up dead people and animals?
A monkey riding a dog is probably the awesomest thing that could ever happen.

First of all: Hi all, I'm new (duh!) :-D

An interesting application of this would be to reanimate victims of crimes so they can tell you who killed them. The problem is that the brain suffers too much after a short time without oxygen, I guess :( Not to mention it would be really creepy to have a corpse talk to you and perhaps point out the murderer

i considered that, but like you said, the brain just isn't viable after a couple of minutes. the best you could hope for is not something that would stand up in court, i expect...

Imagine the scene in the court.
Lawyer: For my next witness I call... the corpse of Mr Watchamacallid!
All: GAAASP

I should write for one of those court shows. (I actually consider that a better plot than what I've seen until now)

soilders, we could use the corpses of the fallen people in the military. think of it. you inlist people, they die, we bring them back, we inlist more people, they die, we bring them back...

that means the numbers could jump from 1million to 3 to 4million.

If for some reason a guys heart of lungs suddenly just stopped working, than I think we could have an extra pair on standby for emergencies...besides that its pretty useless.
