I haven't watched it, but I have one question. Is he an ex-killer hired for his expertise, or is he a regular copper who kills on the side? The ads were never clear what they meant about a serial killer police dude.

He commits ritualistic serial murder of offenders who he has forensically made sure were guilty, but got away with it. Child rapists, etc. He was adopted by a police detective from the scene of a horrific crime as a toddler, his sociopathy was identified by his foster father, and he was taught how to aim his compulsion to kill towards those who deserve to die, rather than innocent people. The show's main sticking point is how this issue is dealt with from the killer's perspective, thus giving a humanity to the concept of 'vigilante'.

Showtime has a page up that lets you legally stream the pilot and second episode (in full) to see what it is like.

It really is a thought-provoking show.

It's on a channel called FX over here, I'll check it out next time it's on.
