What are your favorite Poe stories and poems?

yeah, i think poe was comma-happy and too fond of inserting foreign languages and stuff.. but the stories under all that obfuscation are pretty good, so it can be worth it to wade through

Another very good story exists but I do not remember the title, about a specie of bogey boat... does anybody remember it?

I've read a variety of biographical material, including letters. The one full-length biography I've read is Mournful and Never-Ending Remembrance, which was so-so--the author didn't like Poe, and it's usually not good when a biographer despises his subject. I have another biography on reserve at the library, and will post again after I've read it.

If you decide to go back, try starting with Masque of the Red Death or Pit and the Pendulum.

I say start with "The Black Cat". But "MS Found In A Bottle", "The Oblong Box", "The Pit And The Pendulum", "The Cask of Amontillado" and "The Duc De L'Omlette" are a-pretty-pretty good.

I forgot about The Black Cat, was the first story of Poe that I read, it is excellent.

"The Narrative of A.G.P. of Nantucket" was quite good. Haven't quite finished yet, got another 10ish pages to go, but it's very gripping and quite well told (save some boring ass parts).

True. I'd forgotten that some of the latter part reads a little like an encyclopedia article. The beginning, the part where they're stuck on the hulk, the islanders, etc. are all good but he seems at times to have tried to fill out the length of the book, or else was trying to add factual matter just to convince people that the story was really true.
