Another strange fact

I was reading Carl Sagan's Cosmos last night, and discovered that along with a prohibition on the consumption of meat and beans, the Pythagorean religion strictly forbade the knowledge of the dodecahedron-the fifth solid form.
The other four solids were associated with the classical elements, earth, air fire and water.
The five regular solids were quite important to the pythagoreans.
But the dodecahedron was somehow held to be forbidden.
Now we have some idea of why the Shining Dodecahedron was the artifact that summoned the Haunter of the Dark.
Lovecraft was self taught, but very well versed in classical subjects.
Everything is rooted somewhere.

A dodecahedron has twelve sides, so wouldn't it be the twelfth solid form? I'm not too hot on geometry no matter how many dimensions it has, so I don't know. But yeah, that's a nice little fact you've come across.
Speaking of Pythagoras, have you ever seen the film 'Pi'? It has huge sections influenced by his workings on the golden ratio, as well as other mathematicians' discoveries.

The Shining Dodecahedron summons a more hideous avatar of Nyarlathotep: Rosie O'Donnell.

Yes, my blog is taking a Lovecraftian twist, over on Alt, and I think the ideas got all tangled up.
I found the Wikipedia entry on the trapezeohedron very interesting.
Tessatacts are also supposed to have strange properties, I must look deeper.....much deeper......consult the tomes....................................

I love the way Wikipedia is 'an eldritch tome of forbidden lore' these days.

The al-Azif is sometimes called the Adder, it corrupts and consumes other books, at least according to one tale I read(I think it was called 'The Adder', but I'm not sure, have to look around a bit)
Perhaps this explains computer worms?

I was so vexed by my error, I have begun taking my blog on Alt.com to a Lovecraftian dimension. and telling the tale of the Glowing Dodecahedron.
It has lots of nasty, kinky sex, you guys will love it!

'. . . the book was originally called Al Azif, a word that Lovecraft claimed was an Arabic word that referred to "that nocturnal sound (made by insects) supposed to be the howling of daemons".'
