beyond the wall of sleep

i just recently read 'beyond the wall of sleep' in dagon and other macabre tales (arkham house 1965), and didn't find it very chilling at all.. more like a spiritual metaphysical kind of thing. this part was memorable:
this sounds like it could have been written by an acid-dropping college student in the 1960s or 70s, or a levitating swami of hindustan. i wonder if that was lost in translation to the horror movieH.P. Lovecraft wrote:I am an entity like that which you yourself become in the freedom of dreamless sleep. I am your brother of light, and have floated with you in the effulgent valleys. It is not permitted me to tell your waking earth-self of your real self, but we are all roamers of vast spaces and travelers in many ages.
