I currently writting a short story about two races that evolve from humans. One race lives in the ocean and becomes a race of mindless seal people(or something like that) I havent really had much time to think about it. Descriptions something like there really pale and there arms and feet have fused into fins. Im just looking for other features that would make them seem cooler...any suggestions...

so you're taking the mammal approach with these deep ones.. interesting. seems like they would have to have fur and/or blubber for insulation. blow-holes could be optional

Ya I was thinking more like skinny boney seal people... The setting is in a tropical region so they wouldn't need much blubber and hair. The blowhole is a sweet idea but I was kinda thinking about a crooked spine too, for a sorta hump/dorsal fin.

You might want to look into the Amazonian myths that the pink river dolphins can turn into humans, and the celtic story of the seal wife where people turn into seals by putting on their skins. When a man steals the skin of one seal-woman, she must marry him in the hopes of getting it back. Just for background, I always find things with a folklore precedent have a certain resonance.

I see them as oozing, ancient, somewhat decayed specimans of fish-people. Stange coloured eyes, long fangs, but still that ocean horror-esque feeling. You get the idea.
