Has anyone ever read any of his work? I have not even really heard much about him.. I picked up a book of a few collected stories by him today. A lot of his work seems to be Lovecraft based.
Is he fairly well known and I just don't know about it ?

Ive read his Mythos but I cant remember the title. I think it was "Haggopian" but I may be mistaken. I liked him lots, though.

He is fairly famous for a horror writer. Check out the
Necroscope series. Best damn vampire books ever written, IMO.
His mythos stuff, on the other hand, tends to runfrom mediocre at best to total trash. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got a few gems out there, but I haven't come across them yet.

I agree, The Necroscope series is TERRIFIC, at least the first 5 or 6 books. I got kind of lost after the Last Aerie.
Harry Keogh is one of my favorite characters ever.
I couldn't really get into the Titus Crow stories. Maybe I should try again.

I had the same thought not too long ago. Turned out to be a bad idea. Those stories should be called
Titus Crap.

I read one of his collections (can't remember the title) and really enjoyed it. I think the collection I read was part of a 2 volume set--I'd like to read the other as well.

i cant believe you people
in my opinion...(if it matters) is that when lovecraft died,
he was reincarnated as Brian Lumley!
Lumley is the best mythos author besides Lovecraft himself.
And Titus Crow blew my mind away!
one of the best mythos stories EVER!!!!
EVERYONE....READ TITUS CROW...READ ALL OF LUMLEY...BUT STAY AWAY FROM NECROSCOPE...READ TITUS...WORSHIP LUMLEY...LOVECRAFT INCARNATE!!!!
IA IA IA IA IA IA IA!!

I will probably check out Titus first then..
What is it you do not like about the Necroscope series?

starts good, then gets into a lot of politics of vampires and then it slows down and drags and drags and drags and on and on and on...
till something cool finally happens..
then it drags on and on some more.
one good thing though...
the most ancient vampires sort of resemble shoggoths....
they are so old they have evolved over and overagain...till, eventually, they ended up being large masses of arms, eyes, and stuff. Locked in dark pits waiting to be fed.
mainly the books just drag and wander off subject.

No seriously most of the Lumley Mythos stories are pretty bad but the Titus Crow stories are the worst.

Sometimes, you just gotta let the kids stick that paper clip in the electric socket to find out for themselves.
