A Disturbing Find

While examining a stack of used record albums a few days ago, I found an old collection of German sea shanties.
The liner notes, dated 1958, referred to Miskatonic University, the worship of Dagon and mysterious happenings in the sea.
Honest, I couldn't make this up.
I'll try to borrow it long enough to transcribe the pertinent section-it refers to a Professor Maldemer, and strange inscriptions from Pharonic Egypt.
I won't play it, though, oh, no, too many flea market Necronomicons and book club editions of 'The King in Yellow' have destroyed the unwary!
Glad to join the crew.

It would bore you to death-I'm dead serious, this bit of inspired wierdness really exists.
Maldemer is a pun on the French term for sea sickness-some guy got assigned the task of writing liner notes for this obscure collection of music, couldn't think of anything to say, and began to goof on it.
Whole thing smells of beatniks.
Well, 'Louie, Louie' is actually a sailor's song, too-more when I can borrow the damned thing for a few hours.

This is a bit offtopic, but has anyone seen the movie "Club Dread" it's a parody of slasher movies but it has some good sea shantie's on it. I'd like to get that sort of fun songs but I don't know any bands.

The record is non-mythos content, it's actually sailor's songs in German!
I think.
I'll copy out the part of the liner notes that pertain to the Mythos.

Professor Maldemer wrote:
"Egypt has left us several examples of the sea chanty, the best of which dates from the second empire.
"This chanty comes from a copy of the book-of-the-dead made for Queen Hatshepsut. It is a lugubrious and slightly scaberous ditty meant to be sung by the departed soul as he travels the Osiric solar boat on his journey to the Underworld.
"Sumerian and Assyrian chanties, although doubtless the earliest on record, have not survived at all except for a reference in a book now in the famous library of Miskatonic University.
The Necronomicon of the mad Arab, Abdul Azrhad(sic) makes veiled allusions to a proto chanty used in the rites of the fish goddess Dagon, but the sinister aspects of this verse is such that quotation in this article would bee unseemly and out of place.
"Another version of these verses may be found in de Lancret's 'Mysteres de la mer Pre-historique (Bibliotheque National, Paris), this is also unsuitable for quotation."
Perhaps a new tome?
For the person seeking rollicking and ribald music, try the early works of The Pogues, an Irish punk-folk band from the '80's, still in print and available.

Well, that put the kibosh to serious discussion-not that this qualifies as serious.
"De gustibus, non disputandem"
Which means "Batten yer gob, ya heathen ratbag", or would, if there was any justice!
Any repeat of this and I'll beat you over the head with Shane McGowan's liver.
That said, any suggestions for the guy who wants fun music?

...Shane McGowan still has a liver? I thought it went the way of his teeth.

If they pulled his teeth, they'd have to bury them in a toxic waste dump.
There was a documenary on him released a while back-frankly, I found it an interesting look at the life of an alcoholic has been.
Hideous waste of talent.
So, gonna help the sea-chantie guy out?
