Lovecraftian Pilgrimage

Some "The Thing" movie fans camped at the location of the shooting grounds and brought back all sorts of cool stuff. Now next year they are going back to get more stuff from there. I think it's a marvellous idea and you really have to be dedicated. Too bad I haven't got the money to go there yet. Anyway I was thinking if Lovecraft had any places like that where hardcore fans go despite all odds? I don't mean his grave or house but maybe some far out locations and stuff.

Maybe someone's used his letters to map out a route of his travels, and done the trek themselves, just to see the sights he saw - Vermount in particular inspired the setting for "Whisperer in Darkness", while he visited the Catskills first hand before writing "The Lurking Fear" (but after "Behind the Wall of Sleep").

What about the countryside and the "hillside thickets"?

Those were only off the top of my head. There's a section in Charles Dexter Ward that correlates directly with Lovecraft returning home to Providence, and Pickman's model uses a very accurate layout of Boston, to the best of my knowledge.

Oh yeah, the underground abandoned subways.

Aye, and the slums and street names.
