The Innsmouth Academy for C-Teens

Inspirations: Reading the Mythos thread by Bailywolf and the more recent thread in TRO. After trying to find a way to imagine running this with Smallville, it occurred to me that it might work, if you started off with Rookies, who are just starting to deal with the manifestations of their powers.

HPL's stories are full of people who find themselves with disturbing personal qualities and heritages who have to decide whether to keep living and let these strange qualities come into full flower. Like the heroes of "The Outsider" and "The Innsmouth Look", who come to find comfort in the bleak delights of the Mythos to make up for the loss of ordinary humanity.

Also, the supplement School Colours from Outer Space, with its blend of American high school and Lovecraft Mythos.

Also, the Runaways comic book, where the young protagonists go back and forth between alienation and delight at their troubling family histories and powers.

I was thinking of setting the whole thing in a funky boarding school first, so that there's some normal teenagers around to act as NPC's and for somebody that the PC's can act normal around; also for some of that Hogwarts vibe of being in a weird place with weird grownups doing mysterious things.

EDIT: After seeing That Other Guy's post, I must revise my ideas, his idea is better. The Academy is clearly the creepy eldritch Spock-with-a-beard version of Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and is crammed full of the poor gifted bastards. Will continue to spout ideas accordingly.
