Describing clothes

This reminds me of a fanfic that I read years ago... I can't remember anything about it other than it was a scene where 6-8 people met up and there were as many paragraphs describing what each character was wearing.
I agree with The WayFarer 2000, unless it's important, long descriptions of clothing and jewelry can seem a little out of place. I think weaving it into another sentence and just describing it quickly is the way to go, but then again that's just my personal preference. But describing clothes and appearance can also be a way of letting the reader know how much the person (whose POV the story is being told from) pays attention to the person being described. I try to do that in my writing, use longer description if a person is paying attention (and actually has the time to notice and look) and use shorter or none if the person isn't looking or if it's unimportant
