Why was live chat created?

As more businesses turn to e-commerce, the expectation is that customers would be able to purchase at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without the need to first interact with sales or customer service representatives. The products or service would be able to sell itself, and if there were any problems then the customer would contact the company for support.
