Hey, does anyone notice a similarity?

I was just wondering if anyone had noticed how, in the right light, Barack Obama's face looks a lot like that of H. P. Lovecraft. Spooky.

i'm gonna have to see this light you're talking about. i've seen them both use a similar sort of stony expression... other than that it's not ringing a bell

Yah I can't really see the resemblance, if Lovecraft were alive he'd probably be insulted by your comparison, being such a full blown racist and all.

I don't know. The more I think about the similarity, the more another one comes up...

Nyarlathotep shall appear as a dark-skinned man. Chaos will follow him, and he shall travel the globe with his fanatic following driving men mad. He will herald the rise of the Old Ones.

Obama, the charismatic presidential candidate, has brough "Obamania" to the nation's youth. He has already upset the status quo of politics by being the first African-American to get his far in presidential elections. He has been on a record spree of international travel. He claims we will bring Change.

None of this, of course, will change the fact that I'm voting CTHULHU FOR PRESIDENT, but it still makes me wonder. Hey, Lovecraft predicted Pluto becoming not a planet, didn't he?

he did what? you're talking crazy talk now. pluto = yuggoth

Exactly. And Lovecraft said that mankind had discovered Pluto because the Mi-Go wanted, but the day would come when the Mi-Go would decide to change man's attitude towards Pluto, and possibly even forget it was a planet...

was that in 'the whisperer in darkness'? that's one of the stories i've only read one time, so the details aren't all familiar.

i know there's some non-hpl material concerning yuggoth (example: 'discovery of the ghooric zone'). 'expanded universe' stuff tends to bear less importance for me than the original framework. but it's not always easy to tell one from the other...

I dont see the similarities at all. Do you mean when he is seen from his side profile or straight on view?

Almost straight on, with a slight angle, like the Lovecraft photo at the top of the stack on the
"The Temple of Dagon" header at the top of this page.

Maybe it is just my insanity bar filling up and causing delusions. I could have sworn the ears were the same for a moment.
