When I got the book with "The Shadow Out Of Time" in it, I deliberately read it last because it just sounded immense. And it was.

It's also one of the best examples of Lovecraft allowing a character to gradually realize what's happening to him (or around him). The narrator's confusion and attempts to understand his condition in "Shadow" are among his most convincing efforts.

Along with "Dagon" it's easily one of my favourite stories.
