Edgar Allan Poe: A Critical Biography, by A.H. Quinn.

edit: Very informative but tedious in some respects. The reasons for Quinn's judgments are not always clear and his literary taste is finicky (he was offended by the subject of King Pest).

Would I get the movie having read the book first?

there was another movie done in the 'painted-over' style of a scanner darklywaking life, it was called. it was artsy and cerebral, and in love with itself. for this reason, i have been reluctant to see a scanner darkly. please, someone tell me it's a cool movie, and not just a bunch of philosophical wankery with no story

It's a good movie, all story not philosophy.

JJ, it's a damn good story, so unless they accidentaly made a film of "The Denial of the Will", it's not going to go all philosophical on you.

And the 'painted over' style is rotoscoping. :P

Noam Chomsky - "Hegemony or Survival"

Enlightening, to say the very least. I recommend it.

Night has a Thousand Eyes, by Cornell Woolrich. This is my 6th or 7th Woolrich novel, I think, and I've enjoyed them all so far.
