JJ Burke,
Hey, I learned it from over HERE.
Besides what would you expect from the Spawn of Cthulhu but to spread throughout the Church of Cthulhu like wildfire.

Yog-Sothoth,
Hey you, there's a reason I'm the 10th registered user in the last six months or more. Be grateful for what comes your way. Especially for people who really appreciate Lovecraft's work. Besides the only people I know who are into Lovecraft are you guys.

see, that's what i said.. nobody's going to join a cult just for the privilege of being yogi and odin's 'pee-on.' the CoC just flings lovecraftian sound bytes around like confetti, and answers any questions in the same manner. i don't say this just to be a smartass—i really would like to see this cult become something. but that requires a little more serious effort

odin2,
"a little more serious effort."
First off you don't discriminate between newcomers, secondly you don't refer to them as pee ons, thirdly there's nothing wrong with the Church Of Cthulhu site being the lighted hearted forum it happens to be.
"IF THOU WISHETH THY CHURCH OF CTHULHU TO BE A SERIOUS CULT THOU HAST TO TREAT IT MATURELY AND EARNESTLY."
HAIL FATHER CTHULHU!!!
Seriously though, all human holidays no longer exist, all planetary observations should compose The Church Of Cthulhu's declarations, for holidays, magical operations in adoration of all beings in the Cthulhu pantheon.
The Yog Sothoth rite to May Eve should be a serious effort. It was a step in the right direction but not thoroughly composed. Besides invocations, rites, even festivals enacted in honor of Cthulhu and company should be done with reverance, humility and a great deal of respect. You should pick up a few books if you feel the need to:
The Key Of Solomon The King, translated and edited from manuscripts in the British Museum by S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers (this is actual text which almost all Qabalistical Magic is based)
Magick In Theory And Practice, by Aleister Crowley (I personally don't follow Aleister's methods but in this book he gives excellent examples of universal laws and tools for serious magical operations.)
And just for a more broad understanding of using your imagination as something taken as real. This book will provide some insight, The Archetypes Of The Collective Unconscious, by CG JUNG
The Perennnial Philosophy, Aldous Huxley (very good book for empirical evidence of magical employment)
Just browsing through these books will give you a huge headstart.
