The original was the bomb...until they got to earth...

That's the truble with journey tales-when you arrive, the tale is told.
The original BSG was a rip-off of Star Wars, and yet, it had it's moments.
The new one is moody and atmospheric, and I love the politics, which exactly fit the usual model of such situations on Earth.

No, they didn't, and that was one of the many flaws of the plot.
The new show has humanity as it really is, a pretty wretched lot most of the time, but then, rising into shining acts of nobility and sacrifice, just when you least expect it.

i just don't like the use of 'frak'.. it's like that other show farscape, where they used to say 'frel' or something instead of the f-word we're all thinking.. it bumps me out of the story whenever that comes up

I think frak sounds nastier, I use it all the time instead of the alternative.
Everyone understands.

frak is a step up from frel, but it still just makes me think of american network television censors in the year 2007

Wow Wow guy dont be bad mouthing Farscape, that show was one of the greatest Sci Fi shows ever! but the whole "frel" thing was pretty lame, but they did stick alot of made up alien words in that show

yeah it was a decent sci-fi show.. but i don't think there's an elegant way to simulate profanity, especially if you just invent another f-word that's an obvious derivative of an actual word

I've only seen a couple episodes of the new BSG, and while I enjoyed it, the use of frak came across as clumsy to me, too.

The actors and writers should observe some Marine Corps drill instructors in action. Banned from swearing (at least within earshot of civilians), they've perfected the art of making normally tame words sound just as cutting as their more profane counterparts.

BSG has to observe the broadcast rules, ever since the All Destroying Tit of Janet Jackson, fear has ruled the airwaves.
Remember, this is not the Terran culture, and the alien cuss words, the 'on' suffix to so many words, along with the strange retro aspects, smoking, drinking, spectacles, the uniforms and civilian clothes, dial telephones and such are disorienting enough to make it feel very strange, indeed.

meritorious programs, one and all — but not perfect! i just haaad to point that out, because i'm like that, it's just the angle of my dangle, the way i gots to ROLL!

Not at all perfect- the Colonials seem to have a considerable abundance of manufactured goods-where do they come from-these people packed in a hurry, remember, no time to fit out ships as factories.
They've also taken a Hell of a lot of casualties.
But I wonder who the final five are going to be?
