There's also "Cthulhu By Gaslight"
Holmes is accessable, you don't need to study to enjoy the stories, you learn by reading them.
Conan Doyle also wrote, 'The Jewel of the Seven Stars", which has been filmed several times, and is worth reading just the same, and "The Marcot Deep", which is nearly forgotten, and is a very good read.
And for God's sake, do not miss Frazier's 'Flashman Papers', a painless and enchanting window into the 19th Century, full of sex, violence and laughs.
The adventures of Arsene Lupin are back in print this year, too, don't miss them, you can bet that HPL read them.
And Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu novels, not to mention A. Merritt, who could spin a fine tale, when things were right.
It's summer, get reading!
