this is the type of stuff i would like to write. sort of "Robert B. Parker and H.P. Lovecraft have tea at Mike Mignola's house" story.

check out Elder Sign Press' Hardboiled Cthulhu, Two-Fisted Tales of Tentacled Terror. most of the stories in there are really good.

Before you begin, get hold of William Craddock's "Twilight Candelabra"
Not a Mythos tale, it might be called, "Mike Hammer, Considered as a hippie"
Mind bending stuff.
Also see the Ralph Meeker film. "Kiss Me Deadly"some elements of which were used in "Repo Man".
Micky Spillaine was originally a comic book script writer-he wrote fast, and often wasn't exactly top drawer, but when he was on his game, he was good.
