I was happy when I heard there was going to be a sequel, but the more I think about it, the less I like the idea. Some stories should just be left alone.

On the other hand, maybe we should be glad it's not another freakin remake. Seems like Hollywood has lost its balls lately.

I hear it's supposed to pick up immediately after where the Carpenter version left off.

Carpenter had the sequel thought out, but the studio saw how the movie was a box-office flop (whats that against being a cult classic?) and is looking to cash in on it. JC wanted to start the sequel few hours after the events from the movie involving Mac and Childs. BUT there should be no remakes nor sequels. There's a 99% of a chance that the original 1982 movie can't be topped. And the fact that the sequel is going to be filled with a cast of assholes (young, hip actors). And in any case if Kurt isn't in it then the movie is doomed. Doomed as Sarnath.

btw I am currently trying to chew myself through "The Thing" game on my pc. The game is crap, it's got all the facts messed up and is badly recreated. There are so many flaws in the game that it's frustrtaing. Sorry, but I'm a Thing freak. My face went red when in the game a note says The Thing can imitate clothing. I mean wtf?

I know what you mean. That's the kind of gross error that people should be strung up and shot for. Yahoo news had an article in its books section about the Library of Congress publishing a new Lovecraft anthology (as if there weren't too many already). Who ever wrote it was a jackass, too--tried to come off as if he knew what the hell he was talking about.

I bought the Collector's Edition on DVD and there was the general alternative ending where the dog escapes the Outpost #31 and they mentioned a happier ending where Mac survives. But does anyone remember or has seen the ending with two MacReady's? It's weird because the first time I saw the movie I remember it ending that way. But no-one seems to have seen that and doesn't believe me :P

That does not sound familiar to me, but it has been so long since I have seen it.

That double Mac ending blew me away and years later when I saw the normal ending I was like "Well I suppose that's OK too..."

Mega cool movie of course, the better work of Carpenter and one of my favorites. Obviously similarities meet the mountains of the madness, even the ambience of the movie is similar to the book in my opinion.
