Eschaton: Poem for the End
Felt bored the other day, scribbled some ideas, turned it into a crappy poem.

-------------------------------
In the beginning was the Word...
VI VERI VENIVERSVUM VIVUS VICIT;
ET 'VAE VICTIS' ERANT VERBIS DEI.
ARS LONGA, VITA BREVIS, SED NON OMNIS MORIAR;
CREDO QUIA ABSURDUM.
PALLIDA MORS AEQUO PULSAT PEDE
PAUPERUM TABERNAS REGUMQUE TURRES;
HAVD IGNOTA LOQUOR, GRAVIORA MANENT.
IN HOC SIGNO VINCES CUM IRA DEORUM.
Not with fire, ice nor trembling
shall come the curtain call;
Nor wailings, gnashings, beatings
accompany the fall.
The histories are swept away,
the heroes fade for good,
the gods shall miss their twilight blaze,
the Urbs rejoin the Wood.
But no prophet shall see his day of glory and fulfilment.
The glimmering skies, silent as the earth, show infinite signs meaning nothing to none.
((O)))
Man never knew the dooms he feared,
the million catastrophes, the grand finale.
Stillborn was his monstrous son, his Idols still remain,
The fires heaven dormant in his silos.
No, the fiend that smote him was his closest companion:
the worm almighty, clutched close to his breast,
always nearest to his heart.
Eh bien. C'est la vie.
Wot?

i knew i should have learned latin...
and french...
but it's not so crappy, really. i liked the cadence of the first rhyming bit, then that sort of broke up.. i guess it's like the world coming to an end

A monkey riding a dog is probably the awesomest thing that could ever happen.

I tend to fragment and collide different styles for fun.
Translations of the lines:
BY THE POWER OF TRUTH, I, A LIVING MAN, HAVE CONQUERED THE UNIVERSE;
AND 'WOE TO THE CONQUERED!' WERE THE WORDS OF GOD.
ART IS FOREVER, LIFE IS SHORT, YET NOT ALL OF ME SHALL DIE;
I BELIEVE THIS BECAUSE IT IS ABSURD.
PALE DEATH TREADS WITH MEASURED STEPS
THE HOMES OF PAUPERS AND PALACES OF KINGS.
I SPEAK NO UNKNOWN THINGS; THE WORST IS YET TO COME.
IN THIS SIGN (you will) CONQUER WITH THE WRATH OF THE GODS.
(100% old Roman cliche)

Oh well. That's life.

Eidolon,
The intro in Latin could be easily be put to a song (translated of course). That parts not bad really.

"I saw no city spread below, and no friendly lights gleaming from remembered streets, but only the blackness of space illimitable; unimagined space alive with motion and music, and having no semblance of anything on earth."
