Lovecraftian X-Files episodes

I did a search on this forum for this post already and couldnt find one, so does anyone know of any x-files episodes that deal the most with those things Eldritch?

I loved that show when it was on, but dont remember anything specific.

Don't recall any of them being Lovecraftian at all. I'm afraid.

Actually, I was of the notion that the entire series had a very subtle Lovecraft feel to it. Take Mulder as a main character: A young scholar who gets himself involved in things he shouldn't, and is plauged by his own fears and paranoias.

The general theme of the series: That there are forces outside of our sphere of knowledge, and though we grasp at them, we can never fully comprehend.

In specific, look at episodes that have to do with prolonged life through unusual means. (Cool Air)

Body Switching (Thing on the Doorstep)
Any episode involving the sea

It goes on and on. It's all there. It may not make broad statements about it's influences, but in a subtle, and very deep underlying way, it is very Lovecraftian indeed.

Thanks Jehar, that's very insightful.

Thinking about the prolonging of life and I came up with the Squeeze episode with the guy who needs to eat the livers (I think) of his victims to prolong his unnaturally long life.

I wonder what Chris Carter would say as to how much of an influence HPL has on him.

Anyway, I have the first 4 seasons on DVD and must go through them again, as it's been a while.

A couple years back I gratuitously rented every single dvd in turn from netflix, so I can now say I have seen every single episode. I wouldn't say I'm a whizz on the series though. I would need to go through the whole thing a few more times to really become the geek

On the subject of Carter: I would indeed be interested in an interview with him on the subject. At the moment, doing so would be of no academic advantage to me. Perhaps some student in need of some critical english creds can jump on the oppurtunity?

yeah, that's what i would say. i always liked the 'stand-alone' episodes that were more like short stories.. when they got mired in the big alien conspiracy story, it turned into more of a soap opera.

Yeah, I dont remember the Cancer episode. Anyone remember what season?

i always liked the 'stand-alone' episodes that were more like short stories..

You and me both. Those rocked. I liked the Lightning Boy episode, when they played Filter's Hey Man, Nice Shot.

hmm.. it's the episode where we find out that scully has cancer in her head. the guy attacks her and says something like 'i'm sorry but you have something i need.'

I always thought the best episodes were the ones that focussed more on conspiracy than supernatural, like the one with the voodoo at the immigrant detention centre.
