Covers.

Post by sabersword »

Thought I would start a new thread.More like a grip session realy.I have been collecting hpl books sence the sixtys and Have watched the covers change. The early ones were truly cool but as time went on, they turned to crap. Some of the best were from Panther horror, and some of the worst from Carroll&Graf. Why do I complain? These are works by the master and are not to be sulleyed by crapy covers, thats why! Lovecraft was the master of horror of the twentyith century and deserves better. Yours, by him who is not to be named.

Michael Whelan's artwork for Del Rey's paperback Lovecraft collection (circa 1980s) is the best I've seen.

I do like the cover for "Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Tales", but all the other covers I've seen are dogshit.

It's hard ot tell when he's joking and when he's serious. I thought he was serious - those covers are halfway decent.

I was serious, JP. Robert is just gracing us with his wit.

However, I have changed my mind since my previous post. There is one HPL cover that as so terrifying, so completely disturbing to the human psyche, that it had to be taken off the shelves. You can view it here, but don't say I didn't warn you if you choose to follow the link.

I think it's the shade of green that does it.
