A Mythos song by G.W.A.R.

Post by Adrian »

Never heard the song, I found the lyrics by searching for Cannae lyrics. I never knew this Dungeons & Dragons band had this sort of a song. Nice imagery, btw:

"Horror is a face, and you must make a friend of horror horror
and moral terror are your friends and they are not.
that they are your enimies the horror"
[from "Apocalypse Now"]
I saw Yig. Yig saw me.
We're together in dark concavity.
I saw Yig. He's so big. He smokes cigs.
Eats just like a pig.
Ooooohhhhhh! I saw Yig. I saw Yig. I saw, I saw Yig!
Yig now is shifting his gibbering mass.
He hides boils with maggots.
The pus-sac extrudes.
The horror that is Yig...
When he rapes your mind, your mind will snap like a twig.
Shaping and raping, his conscience is clear.
Infest - black death.
Spreads hate and foul cheer.
The horror, The HORROR!
Where Yig doth tread no man tread tomorrow.
Reeking death harvest of humans in hatred.
Suck on the shitbag of what you created,
What we created. Yig now in coming, Yig now is here.
Yig now he makes things impossibly queer.
Piles of maggots
Clouds of flies
Putrid breath
And bulging eyes.
Yig comes and you die, you all die.

All I know about them is what I read on "Metal Hammer". I bet they sound as bad as members of Manowar look on their album covers. Not that I don't like oldies: Billy Idol and Blue Oyster Cult are my fav bands but yeah. Their costumes were pretty good, that is if you like to pretend you're a villain from Digimon and dress up in curtains and cardboard boxes :P

GWAR should have stopped after the first couple of albums. The sad things there are people who don't get it and are fans!

All I really ever knew of GWAR was their costumes. I do not think I have ever actually heard them.

I do not really know what I think about the lyrics. It is really hard for me to decide if I like lyrics when I have no idea what the song sounds like :)

Gwar is a goofy-sounding band, to match their image. The whole thing can be seen as a satire on the more theatrical and "look-at-me-I'm-evil" bands out there, but musically they sound kinda like a hair band from an alternate, evil Universe. Really entertaining, really fun.

I have been a Gwar worshipper for a long time. Their two most recent efforts are terrific, heavy and scary (Violence has Arrived & War Party)

I agree some of their stuff is pretty hard to digest.

That intro bit to Horror of YG (Horror has a face...) is from Apocalypse Now, BTW

Not trying to be a post ho, but I noticed another GWAR/Lovecraft connection... a mention of Shub Niggurath in the new track "Lost God"

Really, though, the entire GWAR mythos and back history hearkens to and consiously apes the Cthulhu Mythos. There are loads of references: Gwar were intergalactic space-gods banished to earth where they accidentally created the human race, caused the extinction of the dinosaurs and tilted the planet on its axis, thereby freezing Antarctica and themselves until the modern age, when they were accidentally thawed out by humans and are now bent on humanity's destruction. Kinda sounds like "At the Mountains of Madness"

Also, the lead singer's 20" monster penis is named "The Cuttlefish of Cthulhu"

"The Cuttlefish of Cthulhu"

I do believe the cuttlefish had a song named after him if not it was just about him. Wasn't he attached for the UK shows, but in the usa he has been amputated and is hanging from a belt?
