Hollywoods failure to take advantage of epic literature.

Ok, Give me a budget of 5 million dollars and I could probably pump out 3 movies that are better than any of the new movies that are out (With the exception of IronMan). How will someone like me do this? Follow the storylines to the tee and do not stray from the roots of the writer.

The reason I bring up this post is that Hollywood has failed miserably in the sense of picking up epic works of fiction and making them into talented motion pictures. How could a multi-billion dollar industry who makes movies for a living be so impotent when it comes to capturing the historical greatness that is within literature? So disappointing.....

You clearly don't get why these productions lack so much effort...hollywood doesn't like effort. They're a bunch of tools who are only interested in the status quo, movies that are flashy and don't require much thinking. Originality is the enemy of the main stream, with originality the bar is constantly moving higher and higher, which means theres a constant competition between the big producers. As long as everyones making a few million off each movie, everyones happy.

Originality and faithfulness can only come from independent film makers, why? Because they're trying to get an edge on everyone else so that they can be the tool making millions of dollars. Its sad but thats how the industry works, shank or be shanked.

not only that but "following the storyline to a tee" would make at least a 6hr movie. have any of you watched a 6 hr movie? ive watched an 8hr movie. it was horribly painful to sit that long :/

writers and directors always talk about the difficulty of adapting something for the screen. you just can't tell a story the same way in film as you can in text. unless you make a movie of a book, where the pages turn every couple of minutes, and the audience sits there reading the whole time. maybe some nice background music. you'd have to figure out the average reading speed of wherever you show the movie. but that's small bananas. this is a million dollar idea that hollywood was too stupid to realize. i might try selling it in bollywood, if i can get an investor to finance a luxurious business trip to india which includes riding an elephant just about everywhere i go.

I agree with you on that my chum, what was that 8 hour movie you saw? The longest I've gone was watching the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, we got really baked and watched them alll night, shit that was a long night.

i think it was one of the perl habor movies....... it was before dvds cameout and it was like 3 or 4 tapes

I disagree! I disagree with your premise and the use of the word "chum"! They can do it, all they have to do is get a person who is an expert on the literature. Im sure there are thousands of stuffy college professors who have dedicated their lives to all forms of authors and are able to relay the precise storyline to the directors. I agree with myself!

I'd agree with that, also. But, like running for president, anyone who is qualified to make a movie probably doesn't want to do it.

Its pretty hard to reach the level where someone will let you make a movie without question, and if that movies a flop(accurate or not) you wont be making movies for a while.

agreed. even if someone like speilberg wanted to make a movie he couldn't do it without higher ups questioning him about alot of the details and such
