Different Chaosium editions?

Post by tehuti88 »

I'm working on trying to collect all (or at least most) of the Chaosium "Call Of Cthulhu Fiction" books. Sadly, many are out of print so I have to buy them through third-party sellers, and some are pricey. I have various questions since I haven't yet been able to put together a full listing of all of them, but right now I'd just like to ask about two volumes.

Namely, I want to know if there are any differences between the different printings/editions of Lin Carter's "The Xothic Legend Cycle" as given by Amazon:

Paperback: 271 pages
Publisher: Chaosium (February 1997)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 156882078X
ISBN-13: 978-1568820781

OR

Paperback: 288 pages
Publisher: Chaosium Inc. (June 15, 2006)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1568821956
ISBN-13: 978-1568821955

Note the differing page counts. Is there more/different material in one than in the other, is one updated, or are they in effect the same book, just one is a newer printing than the other? I realize the page count info at Amazon can be incorrect at times. I just worry that I might spend more money on the newer edition only to find it's the same as the older one, or I might try to save money on the older one and miss something that's in the newer one. Yagh!

The same question for Robert E. Howard's "Nameless Cults":

Paperback: 384 pages
Publisher: Chaosium (June 1, 2002)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1568821301
ISBN-13: 978-1568821306

This is the only listing given at Amazon, but apparently it went through more than one printing/edition, based on third-party seller comments. I bought what a third-party seller at Amazon said was the 2002 edition Amazon advertises, but received the 2001 first edition. Are they in effect the same book, just different printings? Or is the material different in any way? (Even something as minor as editor's notes or preface or whatever.)

I doubt anyone really has the answer I'm seeking but I'd appreciate it if anyone does. My apologies if I've posted this in the wrong area, I tried to find the most appropriate one.
