new Cthulhu Mythos community!

Post by darrick »

Why Ning?

Because I'm not 20 years old and don't see marketing or "monetizing" as my primary goals, I've been hesitant to use every piece of internet faddism before seeing its merit and eventually breaking down and just going for it. First the website itself, then a forum, myspace, blog, sign-up newsletter... and now one of these new social networking platforms. That's where Ning comes in.

OK, I've done it. I've caved. Someone was going to make a Ning community based on Lovecraft's Mythos (and probably more after my original effort). So why the R'lyeh not? Truth is, the Cult of Cthulhu could probably use a place like that. It's fun and kind of addictive; also slightly empowering. Chalk up another victim, Ning. You win, newfangled technology!

Perhaps you could explain a little more about the Cult of Cthulhu community, which I've never heard of before? It does look interesting.

Oh, and the name Ning reminds me of good old Ningauble of the Seven Eyes...now there was a creature who could really deal in the Mythos!

Ning makes me think of Monty Python for some reason... silly name but that's what they've named their software. :| basically, ning is a social network platform... it lets you create your own myspace or facebook type community.

originally, i wanted to just name it Cthulhu.ning.com, but apparently that name was reserved, so i went with CultofCthulhu.ning.com

the Cult of Cthulhu is a magical/religious organization conceived 4 years ago out of my disdain for modern occult groups. while this new Cthulhu community will be used by said organization, CoCning is for everyone who is into HPL, the Mythos, and things of that nature. it's "a place for tentacles".

so what does it offer? an amazing amount of stuff! profiles, comments, music, pictures, blog, forum, events, groups, videos. pretty much everything that myspace allows, except it's customized towards a (non-Euclidean) Mythos angle. it takes about 3 minutes to sign up and create a profile, so why not try it out?

'ning' is also what you say when the dentist slips with the hookie thing
A monkey riding a dog is probably the awesomest thing that could ever happen.
