"Reliving My Childhood"

Post by decadence »

I have seen ads for this thing called gametap. I was curious so I went to the page and checked it out. It is some kind of pay per month thing, but you can play HUNDREDS of old console games legally. Most people that are in the know on this kinda thing use what is known as an EMULATOR. Well the company that does this thing here has one hell of a nice one.

It has pretty high system requirements, but if you meet them, you'll lose yourself in the shit there. They have old Sega Games (I played sonic the hedgehog for 9 hours!!!). They add new games all the time.

Here is a small list of the games they have:

Street Fighter II
Pacman
Galaga
Tomb Raider 1-3
Tom Clancy - Pandora Tomorrow
Myst
1943: The Battle For Midway (the original ARCADE ONE!)
3d ultra-pool
3d ultra-pinball
ALTERED FUCKING BEAST ARCADE VERSION!
R TYPE

(with just seeing those, you can see what that list can become!)

The free trial lasts 7 days, and lets you pick from a list of games to start. They have some pretty badass classic games on that site.

I may subscribe. For the cost per month to rent 4 movies, you can't beat unlimited access to all those old games that are so hard to find you'd have to be rich to find them in a pawn shop!

As of this post, they currently have 752 games available to play. This is not like that yahoo bullshit with 5000 versions of tetris. These are actual pc and console classic games that are world wide famous from all eras of videogame history. Pacman, Myst, etc. It's amazing.

The client for the thing runs really well, has a crisp, clean look, and is stable. I had no issues running it from the get go. The way this works is, you run it, login, and then look at games in the lounge. If you want to play a game, you can "stream" the game as an encrypted file onto your machine. The game will only work when you are logged in, which prevents abuse. It is safe, again stable, and you can play all you want to.

In my opinion, the best thing about this is that the games all function as they did on the old Sega, or pc. You can save your games, and your account with gametap keeps them sorted. So if you play sonic and hit a checkpoint, it will be there if you logout midgame! That itself is neat enough, but also, you can remap some of the controls for many of the games, such as the pc games.

And if paying for something like that is not something any of you would be willing to do, here is an ASS TON OF GAMING that costs you zero, nada, zip.

Last Chaos:

Image

Last Chaos is an on-line role playing game where thousands of players can simultaneously be connected, fight and upgrade their courage and battle skills through adventures, quests and crafting skills with fellow adventurers.

By accomplishing missions, learning crafting skills and experiencing adventures in the huge and unknown world, players acquire the bravery, intelligence and strength to become the true ruler of Last Chaos.

Advanced Graphics

A powerful graphical engine brings the world of Last Chaos to life. With Bump Map Rendering Technology, a technology that enables high-quality graphics of 20,000~30,000 polygons using only 2,000~3,000 polygons, the game delivers a new level of graphical detail and world interactivity. "Filtering Technology", also known as "Glow-light effect" or "Blur filtering technology," allows for crisper, brighter images and gives the graphics a more realistic atmosphere. Last Chaos is the first online game to make use of this technology.

Personal Dungeon System

The "Personal Dungeon" is a private quest mode where players can go solo in an "arcade" style gaming environment. This allows players to experience parts of Last Chaos in privacy, and at a more rapid and exciting pace. Players are also rewarded handsomely in experience and treasure!

E.R.A.S.

With E.R.A.S. (Exciting Range of Aggressive Battle System), players can hit monsters within the sweep of their weapons range! Got a 6 foot sword? You can hit targets 6 feet away! Combined with more exciting attack options that many action games don't have, Last Chaos provides more thrills and excitement than many similar action oriented on-line games.

Item Crafting System

Players are able to craft various useful items, which they can personally use or trade with other players. The Item Malls create a convenient method of trading.

Player Vs Player Vs Environment

Other online role-playing games have PvE - player versus environment (fighting computer-controlled monsters) and PvP - player versus player (human-controlled characters) fighting each other. Last Chaos brings these two game features together in an evolving system. PvPvE manages the complex relationships and alliances between races and guilds; and allows players a chance to test out their fighting skills against other players. Last Chaos will continue to work with players to improve the PvPvE features to make the game more exciting and challenging.

SpaceCowboy:
Image

Space Cowboy Online is an action based Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) 3D Space Shooter. In Space Cowboy Online, players can pilot their own space fighter ships (Gears) on an imaginary planet and upgrade skills or the Gear itself.

• 3D Space Shooting MMO

In Space Cowboy, gamers have full control over the Gear's control making it very different from the traditional RPG's mouse click control method. This is a game based on Role-Playing Game (RPG) level concepts, but the fun and action of a First Person Shooter (FPS).

• Diverse Selection of Fighting Gears

There are 4 kinds of Gears available to choose from, with each Gear having it's individual unique characteristics. These characteristics differ in skill and items giving the player the opportunity to choose which items to equip to suit the player's preferences. Gears can be upgraded to change color, performance, weapons, and so on in order to satisfy the gamer's growth of the character.

• Battle Formation/Brigade System

A formation system is possible that is similar to the generic party concept of a Role-Playing Game. There can be a maximum of 6 players in a formation (triangle formation, reverse triangle formation, X form formation, etc.) dependant on the formation leader at the center of the formation during battle. The performance of the formation depends on the player's ability to work together and different formations require different skills and playing styles.

In addition to the formation, there is a brigade concept that is the equivalent to the guild term from other Massive Multiplayer Online games. A brigade can consist of 40 members, and have a specific brigade mark specified by the brigade leader to identify the brigade.

• Battle/Large-Scale Battle

Space Cowboy Online has an intense battle system including Player vs Environment (PVE) and Player vs Player (PVP) elements. PVE elements are used for standard leveling from experience points, while PVP elements can be seen through 1 on 1 battles, formation (party) battles, and even brigade battles. As opposing nations exist, there will be large scale nation wars throughout the game servers resulting in a possibility of occupying enemy forces and increasing profits for ones own nation. The 3-D aerial and ground battles will bring a whole new experience to the user.

• Mission

A large number of missions are available which bring the storyline into perspective depending on the player's chosen nation and have it's share of rewards.

• Voice Communication System

When a headphone and microphone are in hand, 1 on 1, formation, and brigade voice communication options are possible. Using voice communication will make interaction between the users easier and more personal than just the text form of communication, as well as giving a method of communicating while the gamer can continue to be focused on their game control. Using voice communication within Space Cowboy Online will help organize strategy in large-scale battle, and missions where many people can join in.

Mythwar Online:

This game has so much going on that I felt a snippet from its site would do it a disservice. If you ever played and loved Final Fantasy in the OLD days when it was cartoony and simpler than all the hype shit now, you will like this game. It has a cell-shaded appearance, which is kinda nice on the eyes. I have only just begun to mess with it, but it is really something, and as usual, totally free.

-----------------------

That's it for now. You are looking at possibly WEEKS of gameplay from this list, if not longer. The gameknot link is really awesome if you love chess like I do. I have tried out these items listed here, either in full or starting out, and they are worth a serious look. Each one is, again, 100% free. How can you lose with that?

I still play wow, of course LOL, but these are nice for when WOW is down, or when im sick of it.

Not for long! *calls the police on you*

I'll just stick to my normal emulator. The only games I need I already have on it.
