Hello all,
since the first time I entered Cthulhumud, I noticed that the "atmosphere" of CoC RPG is fully inside this MUD... and this leads to an idea: what about hosting scheduled RPG plays, possibly on a temporary, dedicated session of CthulhuMud? these are my thoughts:
- Players on this MUD are not many, this is true, but that's what makes the thing feasible, e.g. hosting 50-players RPG sessions would be a bit troublesome, but a 10-people group can be managed.
- MOBs can be programmed to answer questions as by the usual quests, but in addition, immortals will have fun impersonating the main NPCs thus adding a good deal of interaction to the story.
- Players could have either a choice of pre-made characters as in CoC, or be granted a creation process for medium/high-level characters; and as in CoC they could decide to keep the character for advancement purposes, until he-she dies.
- Character could die forever (no respawn), as basically there is no need for advancement to play the sessions and another character can be taken instead of the old one (again, like in CoC RPG). This would add to the thrill, and would mantain the "first think, then shoot" atmosphere of CoC.
- Players could be divided in "good" and "bad" groups and have opposite goals, if enough immortals are there to keep track of their schemes.
What do you think?

I agree, this may be quite time-consuming if one has to code the answers of various NPC... As in live RPGs, the more the players remain a single group during the session, the easier life gets for the organization. As in live RPGs, players can be asked to please try to stick together
Then, almost all NPCs could be played "live" by ~2 immortals (a group of cultists with a master can be arranged by as few items as coding a couple of repetitive ritual chantings for the cultists and an order to attack at the Master's command, and then an immortal could play the master "live" and there would be no coding involved).

Hmm, I like the idea. I think I need to set an updates section to let folks know where I am with the drivers, and what's left to do. It's a long list. I still have a few ideas floating around in the endless muck of my brainspace for some games however... mmm... remind me to thank Azathoth for the brains idea, they're so squishy, the perfect playtoy!
