The 'Now Reading' thread

I just finished "An Antarctic Mystery" by J. Verne. It was good, nay great.
Now I'm onto At The Mountains of Madness.
I really think someone needs to write a novella bridging the gap between "An Artarctic Mystery" and ATMOM, thus making a saga consiting of: The Narrative of A.G. Pym of Nantucket, An Antarctic Mystery, (yet to be written), At The Mountains of Madness

"Mountains" and "Pym" are more like parallel texts, not linear ones - imagine "Blade Runner" the movie and "Blade Runner" the PC game, if you will.
Currently working my way through "The Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer. I recommend the Merchant's, Miller's, Wife of Bath's and Pardoner's tales.

I don't see how they're parallel texts, but they could easily be made linear ones if someone was to write a bridge between "Antarctic Mystery" and "ATMOM"

There's no plot to link them, really. Just elements of the same world.Enkil wrote:I don't see how they're parallel texts, but they could easily be made linear ones if someone was to write a bridge between "Antarctic Mystery" and "ATMOM"

Turns out you were correct after all. The Chronicles of Castle Brass ended with Hawkmoon, Elric, Erekose and Corum (all manifestations of the Eternal Champion) working together to defeat some great evil. To be honest, it was pretty fucking boring. It got a bit too mystical and airy-fairy for me and I couldn't wait to finish it just so I could read something better!E.A. Lovecraft wrote:Elric rocks. Such a tragic figure. Awesome sword.Diocletian wrote:No Elric, Dorian Hawkmoon is the main protagonist in these books. I don't actually ever remember enjoying any Elric books, or, for that matter any Moorcock books other than the Runestaff ones (and the Castle Brass ones I'm reading now)!
Isn't Dorian Hawkmoon supposed to be another incarnation of the eternal champion?
I'm reading the Iliad, BTW. Might have to revisit the Elric books after this.
Now reading "Divine Invasions", a biography of Philip K. Dick, just also finished "Ubik" by Mr Dick.

A Scanner Darkly was amazing, I've been giving thought to rereading it, though I only read it a few months ago.
Right now I'm reading "A Turn of the Screw" by Henry James

Yeah "A Scanner Darkly" is an incredible book, but extremely fucking depressing!Jesus Prime wrote:Just finished "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", and I've started "A Scanner Darkly", both by Philip K. Dick.
Anyone seen that animated type film they released recently that was based on the book?
