Brian Lumley
Has anyone ever read any of his work? I have not even really heard much about him.. I picked up a book of a few collected stories by him today. A lot of his work seems to be Lovecraft based.
Is he fairly well known and I just don't know about it ?

He is fairly famous for a horror writer. Check out the Necroscope series. Best damn vampire books ever written, IMO.Aleister wrote:Has anyone ever read any of his work? His mythos stuff, on the other hand, tends to runfrom mediocre at best to total trash. I wouldn't be surprised if he's got a few gems out there, but I haven't come across them yet.

I have read all of his mythos stuff and it was pretty decent.

I read one of his collections (can't remember the title) and really enjoyed it. I think the collection I read was part of a 2 volume set--I'd like to read the other as well.Aleister wrote:I picked up a book of a few collected stories by him today.

i cant believe you peopleE.A. Lovecraft wrote:I had the same thought not too long ago. Turned out to be a bad idea. Those stories should be called Titus Crap.I couldn't really get into the Titus Crow stories. Maybe I should try again.
in my opinion...(if it matters) is that when lovecraft died,
he was reincarnated as Brian Lumley!
Lumley is the best mythos author besides Lovecraft himself.
And Titus Crow blew my mind away!
one of the best mythos stories EVER!!!!
EVERYONE....READ TITUS CROW...READ ALL OF LUMLEY...BUT STAY AWAY FROM NECROSCOPE...READ TITUS...WORSHIP LUMLEY...LOVECRAFT INCARNATE!!!!
IA IA IA IA IA IA IA!!

starts good, then gets into a lot of politics of vampires and then it slows down and drags and drags and drags and on and on and on...
till something cool finally happens..
then it drags on and on some more.
one good thing though...
the most ancient vampires sort of resemble shoggoths....
they are so old they have evolved over and overagain...till, eventually, they ended up being large masses of arms, eyes, and stuff. Locked in dark pits waiting to be fed.
mainly the books just drag and wander off subject.
