CTHULHU FILM NEEDS VOLUNTEERS:

All Lovecraft fans and lovers of film in the Seattle area this summer. Arkham NW Productions LLC is in the process of putting together a daring attempt to tackle a smart psychological horror film. This is not a slasher film and it is not camp. We are filming a high-end adaptation of the Shadow Over Innsmouth that digs into the horror that Lovecraft imbued in his piece -the inevitable horror of heredity. We are making a coming home again film couched in horror. We are very proud of our script and are looking for like minded individuals who want to reach for the summit. People who are willing to work hard to bring something special into this world. Address all queries to Arkhamnw@yahoo.com

OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY:

Arkham NW Productions consists of a group of like-minded individuals in close geographic proximity (Seattle, WA and Portland, OR) who joined together to make a film subsequent to an understanding of our common goals. Most significantly, we share two passions: An intention to make great art in our home territory of the Pacific Northwest, using local talent and reflecting a discreet set of local values and identifying characteristics, and, a strong-willed opposition to the direction taken recently by the nation at large, toward media-fueled ignorance and bigotry, war and environmental spoilage, greed and disregard for the welfare of future generations.

We feel that the best way to advance these agendas jointly is through a feature film production, Cthulhu, with other films to follow. Market research shows that a first film should have a built-in audience that is likely to see the picture regardless of media promotion and critical response. The young, urban audience for horror films is that guarantee, a demographic attentive to alternative media (which tends to be left-leaning) and in which cultural product choice is often steered by word-of-mouth and among affinity groups on the Internet. It is also a well-established tradition in which horror successfully delivers social and political messages through the use of radical metaphor: witness the popularity of such films as Dawn of the Dead and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, both of which incidentally have been remade. In this respect the genre is ideal for our purposes, which would be less well-served by a subtler approach. Horror, we believe, will offer us the latitude to create a piece of high art which will make a bold statement about the state of the nation and the assumptions of the larger culture.

Given Seattle’s cultural prominence and wealth of native talent, we feel that it is very unusual that a Seattle-based independent feature film has never received theatrical distribution. We believe it is time for this to change...
