Are there any decent movies inspired by the Lovecraft mythos? I'd definitely like to see them if there are. Might be some good "3 Am in the morning high as hell" fodder.

Inspired by: Yes. (The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness)

Based on: No. Unless you count the short film The Call of Cthulhu, by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society, which is the best Lovecraft adaptation of all time.

Trailer for The Call of Cthulhu

And by the same film-makers, a teaser trailer for the 2008 The Whisperer in Darkness

See more here: http://fantastichorror.blogspot.com/search/label/movies
(The Gibbering Horror of Howard Ghormley [not specifically based on HPL] is one I'll be seeing today. I'll report back later.)

Ya, "The Thing" is inspired heavily by At the Mountains of Madness
