Evil Dead remake, opinions?

Post by Pickman »

Hey all,

Just trying to stir up a little conversation here... :)

There has been a lot of talk recently about the remake of Evil Dead, and I was wondering what the opinion around here is about it?

A little background info for those of you who haven't heard of it:

It will be produced by Ghost House Pictures (Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell), and will not be released as PG-13 like most of the horror films being released lately (it will be R). Sam Raimi will not be directing and Bruce Campbell will not be starring (as Ash). As a matter of fact, Bruce Campbell has requested that the main character not be named Ash at all. A director is currently being sought who can put a fresh spin on the tale, and Dante Tomaselli (Satan's Playground) is the first director to express interest in doing the film...

To confuse things even further, Sam Raimi has been talking about Evil Dead 4 again, and says it will happen. He will direct with Bruce Campbell returning as Ash. Rob Tapert says it may have to be called Army of Darkness II because of who owns the rights though...

Fire away everyone!

Take care,

Craig

I've only seen Evil Dead: Army of Darkness and I liked it a lot. Personally I feel there's no difference if it had sequels or prequels: it was all built up on humour and ass-kicking. But if Campell isn't there as Ash I doubt it will be as popular as it is now. And let's face it - the movies have a strong fanbase that enjoy the film for what it is. It's not a horror movie or a comedy. It's that special oomph mix that only the selected can enjoy and appreciate 8)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the sequel. I hope they won't only blow the top - Army Of Darkness was balancing between ridiculous and serious. Which is fine by me.

I will happily see both if they both are made :)

Check out this though (from the official Bruce Campbell page):

It seems pretty straight forward.. unless maybe it just has not been updated in a while ;)
